AMAAS Media Arts Tour 2024

Get behind the scenes access to Calgary's media art centres and network with media artists and professionals across Alberta!

If you attended or missed out on last year's media arts tour in Edmonton, you won't want to miss out on this year's tour in Calgary! Our keynote speaker Jeremy Bailey will start the day with an inspiring talk over lunch at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland! We will then get a behind the scenes tour of Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, a stunning facility that boasts an impressive collection of music history, technology and instruments, as well as world-class recording studios. We end the tour with a spotlight on Calgary's three seminal media art centres: Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society, and Quickdraw Animation Society! On this tour, you'll also get a chance to hang out and network with some of Alberta's most talented media artists and arts professionals that make up our membership!

From the Edmonton area? 

Don't stress about driving or booking your own transportation! We have a private coach that will be shuttling members into Calgary departing at 9:00AM from Edmonton and returning at approx. 10:00PM. You'll also get an extra bit of media arts in your tour, as a curated screening program will be playing during your trip!

Outside of Edmonton/Calgary but still want to attend?

We want to make sure that ALL of our Alberta-based members have a chance to attend! If you live outside of Edmonton or Calgary, we offer travel bursaries to help you cover the cost of getting to Calgary to take part in the tour! Please email us at admin@amaas.ca for more details!

 

ITINERARY SCHEDULE: 

9:00AM | Bus departs from Art Gallery of Alberta with curated shorts screening program (2 Sir Winston Churchill Sq, Edmonton)

Approx. 12:30PM | Bus arrives at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (750 9 AVE SE, Calgary)

12:30 – 2:00PM | Doors open, Keynote presentation and lunch with Jeremy Bailey

2:30 – 3:30PM | Tour of Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (850 4 ST SE, Calgary)

3:30PM | Bus departs Studio Bell and arrives at CSIF (1725 10 Ave SW, Calgary)

4:00 – 6:30PM | Tour of CSIF, EMMEDIA, and Quickdraw (Networking Lounge with snacks at CSIF)

6:30PM | Bus departs from CSIF with film screening and dinner

Approx. 10:00PM | Bus arrives at Art Gallery of Alberta
