Description

Presented by Ontario Creates Tyler Ellis, 296 Broadview Avenue
Doors at 7PM Performance at 8PM
$30 in advance, $35 at the door

Tyler Ellis, with special guests Jim Thomas' TranzitionzJazz, Noah Zacharin and Lynn Harrison, celebrate the release of Music as Usual, a live solo recording dedicated in loving memory of Tyler's dad, Ron Ellis. If you like your songs with a little tongue-in-cheek, yet with their finger firmly on the pulse of the human condition, then Tyler Ellis is for you. Ellis has worn two musical hats for a long time. In fact, he has worn two wonderful musical hats. On one hand, he’s a critically acclaimed, award-winning singer/songwriter and on the other, he’s an award-winning music teacher.

“I believe he’s one of Canada’s strongest songwriters, in the folk realm. I really love his songwriting.” - Julian Taylor, Words and Music magazine, SOCAN.

And who was his dad, Ron Ellis? Well, that would be Dr. Ron Ellis. His lifelong work was promoting fairness in administrative justice and workers’ compensation reform, grounded by a deep-seated belief in social justice.

His contributions included: setting up Parkdale Community Legal Services (1979) to provide services and information to low-income persons; serving as inaugural chair of the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal (now WSIAT) from 1985-1997; tireless advocacy and education for administrative justice system reform through initiatives including his website; legal text Unjust By Design; and as founding member (2020) of Tribunal Watch Ontario, established to monitor the administrative tribunal system and reform its procedures. We celebrate Tyler and Ron on Friday June 21.

296 Broadview is not yet a fully wheelchair accessible venue, with stairs between all levels. Our goal is to fix that, and we need your support to do so - please consider making a donation towards our goals to make HRL the best listening room in Toronto!
