The Millarville Christmas Market, established in 1988 and one of the premier craft and artisan shows in Alberta.
You’ll enjoy eight fabulous days of food trucks, music,  photos with Santa, face painting, Santa’s workshop, hay rides, reindeer and some of your all-time favorite seasonal vendors as well as many new vendors!
Dress in layers to visit both the indoor and outdoor vendors with four heated indoor areas, Arena, Hall, the Quonset, and large heated tent. Proper footwear a consideration as it can be muddy.
The Millarville Christmas Market has stuck with the timed ticketed entry to provide all visitors with a more comfortable shopping experience. Over the years we have outgrown our facility with the number of guests coming, this helps us spread out the numbers, so it is not so unpleasantly crowded and conducive to a great shopping experience for you and our vendors!
For health and safety regulation reasons, dogs are not permitted in the Market Area (service dogs welcome). Please leave your pooches at home when you visit. However, you might find some homemade dog treats among our vendors to return home with!

Whether you're a seasoned Bull Riding fan or a first-time attendee, this event promises excitement, drama, and family-friendly entertainment. Competitors from all over Canada, the United States, Australia, Brazil and abroad to compete in a high-stakes showdown.
 
Competition:
The unique format is a Three-round elimination Bull Riding where we will take 25 Riders in the first round, the top 12 Riders in the Second round and the top 5 in the third and final round. This year, we will add a unique add-on to the event as we will have TWO Lammles x Lazy P Bounty Bulls.

Zoltan Kaszas is an award-winning stand-up comedian known for his sharp, observational humor and love of cats. Born in Hungary, Zoltan and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1991, first settling in Pittsburgh before moving to the trailer parks of San Diego.
Kaszas, who The Atlantic called a “breakout star,” has been featured on several SiriusXM comedy channels, Laughs on Fox, commercials from Manscaped, Netflix Is a Joke radio, has had hit Dry Bar comedy specials “Cat Jokes” and “Average Intelligence,” as well as headlined comedy clubs and theaters across the country. He won the Seattle International Comedy competition, a month-long event held in Washington state. Getting to the Jack Simpson Gym:

The easiest way to access is to approach the University from the north side via 32 Ave NW, turning south onto Collegiate Blvd.
From there, turn right to park in Lot 10, or turn left to park in Lot 11.
It is a short walk to enter the building via the Olympic Oval north entrance. Walk down the path toward the giant red sculpture.
The Jack Simpson Gym is accessible via the University C-Train station.

Parking:
Hourly lots are available for short term parking needs at a variety of locations on campus. These lots have both an hourly and daily rate available. Parking fees are in effect at all times. Cick here to learn more.

Join Wordfest for a passionate conversation about local news with Jeremy Klaszus, author of The Hollowing of the Calgary Herald, based on his 2023 Sprawlcast. He'll be joined on stage by Herald alumni Bob Blakey, Catherine Ford, Gwendolyn Richards and Shelley Youngblut, who witnessed the newspaper's heyday ­and its slow decline over the decades. The 75-minute show includes an audience Q & A and book signing. Independent Alberta publisher Hingston and Olsen will be on site with copies of the limited edition hardcover, which features electric green paper, foil-stamped iconography, and a letterpress-printed title band. It also includes an all-new afterword in which Klaszus receives and responds to “letters to the editor” about the initial report. You can also pre-order the book here for pick-up at the event.  
About The Hollowing of the Calgary Herald
An oral history of the slow, sad decline of a once-mighty daily newspaper, in book form for the first time.
For more than a century, the Calgary Herald was the heartbeat of Alberta’s largest city, reflecting—and reinforcing—the mores and values of Calgary itself. Other news outlets have come and gone, but no local publication had the power, influence, and longevity of the Herald. As the 21st century arrived, however, so did a number of threats: increasingly aggressive owners, awkward consolidations and mergers, and, of course, the internet. As the transition to digital brought the entire Canadian news industry to its knees, the Herald came right down with it.
Jeremy Klaszus’s The Hollowing of the Calgary Herald is a thoughtful and clear-eyed account of what happens when a big-city newspaper of record slowly crumbles. It is also, unfortunately, a story that is being repeated all across North America. 
The Hollowing of the Calgary Herald is part of Hingston & Olsen’s Permanent Record longform series, which is dedicated to standalone non-fiction features that combine inventive storytelling, careful reportage, and characters and ideas that are worth preserving. Learn more about the series here.

Part ethnography, part visual essay, Sergei Parajanov’s The Color of Pomegranates celebrates Armenian culture through the story of the 18-century troubadour Sayat-Nova, tracing his intellectual, artistic, and spiritual growth through iconographic compositions. The film’s tapestry of folklore and metaphor is a departure from the realism that dominated the Soviet cinema of its era, leading authorities to block its distribution, with rare underground screenings presenting it in a restructured form. At its core, The Color of Pomegranates tells the story of the survival of Armenian culture and people in face of oppression, persecution, and genocide.
This film is Armenian with English subtitles.

The 2024 edition of Perspective is curated by Muriel N. Kahwagi, Assistant Curator at Contemporary Calgary. The series will feature monthly screenings that amplify voices from the Global South, deconstructing broader moving-image practices through an anti-colonial framework. In particular, this year's Perspective will focus on filmic works from the Caucasus, as well as Southwest Asia and North Africa, a region that continues to grapple with the enduring legacies of colonial violence.
