Ballet Español provides students the opportunity to study the art of Spanish dance which encompasses a great range of styles such as bailes folkloricos representing different regions of Spain; flamenco, the art of the gypsies of Spain and its "palos" such as Alegrias, Tangos, Solea, Bulerias, Siguiriyas; and Escuela Bolera, a style of classical dance and music from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries where classical ballet principles of turnout combine typical Spanish arm movements, with castanets, and flamenco footwork and folkloric steps, to create classical Spanish dance works like "La Boda de Luis Alonso". The Ballet Español presents formal public concerts and school concerts every spring and smaller events on campus and for the community throughout the year. 
Join us for a stunning display of Spanish dancing performed by UTRGV Ballet Espanol as well as live singing and music by Chayito Champion, vocalist and Steve Arispe on guitar!

Ballet Español ofrece a los estudiantes la oportunidad de estudiar el arte de la danza española que abarca una gran variedad de estilos, como bailes folklóricos que representan diferentes regiones de España; el flamenco, el arte de los gitanos de España y sus palos como Alegrías, Tangos, Solea, Bulerias, Siguiriyas; y Escuela Bolera, un estilo de danza clásica y música de los siglos XVIII y XIX donde los principios del ballet clásico de participación combinan los típicos movimientos de brazos españoles, con castañuelas, y juego de pies flamenco y pasos folclóricos, para crear obras de danza clásica española como "La Boda de Luis Alonso". 8 Game Basketball Mini Plan - General Admission

Piano faculty Dr. Shoko Kinsella will explore the wonders of love and death through exquisite piano music by Frédéric Chopin and Joe Hisaishi.  The program will include a melancholic Nocturne and the dramatic "Funeral March" Sonata by Chopin, as well as beautiful selections from Joe Hisaishi's piano solos written for Studio Ghibli animation films, TV commercials, and a movie by Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano.

The ballet Billy the Kid pays homage to the American cowboy with its many songs while musically depicting some of the many adventures in the desperado's life. Kenneth Saxon performs the world premiere of an all-new piano concerto by resident composer Justin Writer. Directed by Norman Gamboa, Director of Orchestral Activities at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
