Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel will hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

Using resist techniques, experience the joy of traditional dyeing with indigo.
Join artist Darcy Edinga of Silk Concepts as she guides you through the unique dyeing process using some fun resist techniques known as Shibori which incorporates the use of folding, binding, clamping, and stitching on 100% natural cotton. You will have the opportunity to create several samplers and feel free to bring in a cotton shirt.

Bio:
My interest in fiber art and fashion design manifested at a very young age. I remember sitting on the floor beside my mother and her sewing machine, in my glory creating masterpieces with her fallen fabric scraps! I grew up on the farm with no close neighbors, which left many hours for entertaining myself. Favourite pass-times included picking wild flowers, collecting frog eggs, and finding the best rocks ever! These activities shaped and influenced my perspective and creativity today.
I have been in business painting on silk since 1985 and still love what I do!
My art is nature-inspired, whimsical, and images often depict Canadian culture and history. I interpret color and design on the most amazing natural fiber, silk! Being very luxurious, it drapes beautifully, has an organic sheen, and is incredibly comfortable to wear, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. As a color enthusiast, I love the intense, bold colors that can be painted with dyes on to the silk. 
Quality is of utmost importance! Heart and soul is put into everything that comes out of the studio, creating art and wardrobe pieces that are extraordinary statements, or simple, elegant scarves. Creating beautiful fashion accessories is my passion, my pleasure. I treasure your feedback and love to know my creations are bringing joy to someone's life.

Join artist Karen Scarlett to learn build a foundation of painting with acrylics to be able to continue to grow your skill and passion into the future. 
The beginner-level class teaches all the skills to become a knowledgeable painter, starting at supplies, brush work, and how to prep, and moving into completing a piece. You will cover composition, value, and colour theory throughout the course.

Instructor Bio: 
Karen Scarlett – Western Landscape Artist
Karen grew up fifth generation on the family dairy farm west of Innisfail, Alberta. She has made art her entire life.
The “Queens of the dairy” held a royal spot on the farm and took up much of the energy of the Scarlett family existence. It was a great life.
Creating has been a lifelong adventure and an important part of life for Karen. Art was practiced with Grandma Scarlett where she learned and important lesson – try everything. A love of power tools and creative design were honed with her Dad while hand-craft, sewing and creating with a sense of perfection were inspired by her Mom.
Karen takes her biggest inspiration from her love, Doug. They live in Calgary, Alberta where Karen works from her home studio.
Recently, Karen obtained a commission for 150 pieces of art to be installed in the Royal Palm Hotel and Resort in Miami, Florida. It was thrilling to receive this international recognition.
You can find Karen’s work in private, corporate and commercial collections across North America and in various spots around the globe.

Description of Cattail Lane 
Nick Ackerman’s life is an aimless circuit between his uninspiring job and the local bar until a note from a stranger changes everything. He learns he has a 14-year-old son, Billy, whose grandmother can no longer look after him. Railroaded into fatherhood, Nick takes in the resentful Billy and shuffles Grandma Evie off to the nearby dementia ward at Prairie View Manor. Things get off to a rocky start: father and son are little more than strangers, and Nick struggles with his new caretaking role while Billy can’t seem to let go of his. Luckily, there is Sarah, a housekeeper at Prairie View and the single mother of an energetic and offbeat five-year-old. It is Sarah who Nick turns to as a parental role model and maybe something more.  Nick, Sarah, and Billy all carry their own betrayals and disappointments and are used to keeping others at a distance, but during the dog days of summer, they are given a chance to leave past hurts behind and find a new kind of family.

Alberta's governing body for cheerleading, the Alberta Cheerleading Association (ACA), hosts this Scholastic Event in partnership with Metro Athletics! 
The ACA's Scholastic Classic was designed to have a fun Scholastic event for all of Alberta. Our goal is to profile of the sport of cheerleading in Alberta, which has helped us to grow and change attitudes about the true athleticism and leadership that these athletes commit to.
In addition to this, as a non-profit association, funds raised help us to run our programs such as the education and training of coaches and judges, offering of awards and scholarships, and meeting the needs of scholastic and all-star cheerleading programs in the province of Alberta.

Created for the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, UNCEDED is the first Indigenous-led contemporary architecture exhibit ever presented on the world stage, and the first Canadian Entry to the Venice Architecture Biennale to be presented in North America. Following successful engagements in Venice and Ottawa, UNCEDED brings its breathtaking, immersive experience of the beauty, creativity and worldviews of Indigenous architects to amiskwaciwâskahikan, also known as Edmonton – opening March 8th in the heart of downtown.
Led by the world renowned “Contemporary Master of Architecture” and traditional Elder Douglas Cardinal, UNCEDED showcases the works and worldview of 18 prominent Indigenous architects and designers from across Turtle Island who share an Indigenous vision for the future of our human family.
A grandmother’s warm welcome greets each visitor to the exhibit showcasing the work of 18 Indigenous architects. Visitors are guided through an immersive, world-class, audio-visual experience that pivots on four thematic metaphors: indigeneity, resilience, sovereignty, and colonization. UNCEDED: Voices of the Land demonstrates that Indigenous cultures, inscribed within the laws, customs, and traditions of their peoples, have a profound contribution to make to the world, as seen through the storytelling of the architects. Visitors are engaged with spectacular depictions of nature, stunning visual effects, and architects presenting as life size speakers&semi they can then take the time to absorb Indigenous history through full length documentaries as the heartbeat of powwow drumming guides them through curving walls, as if along a river.

Shoes accompany us on our journeys. They are with us wherever we go, they say who we are, where we came from, and where we are going. These performances will open your heart and transform your perceptions of what it means to be Canadian.
The Shoe Project is a national initiative that amplifies the voices of Canadian immigrant and refugee women through storytelling. Whether selected by choice or imposed by circumstance the shoes we wear can make or break a journey, shape our experiences, and open doors to our future. The Shoe Project 2025 is Edmonton’s fourth live iteration of this compelling project. In November, a group of immigrant and refugee women began working with veteran Canadian playwright Conni Massing to write stories of their arrival and adaptation to Canada centered around a pair of shoes they have worn. Once their stories were complete, each woman was coached by local theatre professionals and they now tell their story for audiences in a revelatory public performance.

Somewhere in America, an army of pre-teen competitive dancers navigate ambition, friendship and desire, as they plot to take over the world. And if their new routine is good enough, they’ll claw their way to the top at Nationals in Tampa Bay. Each plié and jeté puts them one step further from childhood and one step closer to discovering their own identities.
The Alberta premiere of Clare Barron’s Dance Nation follows a group of girls as they fight to find themselves and be heard in a world that wants to pin them against each other. In the midst of turmoil, these characters are confronted with an important question: what does it take to win? And what are they willing to sacrifice to become victorious?
It is intended for ages 13+.

Au5 (pronounced A-U-Five) is the solo project of Austin Collins - presenting a highly matured balance between intellectual, emotional, and danceable music. From hard hitting technical dubstep, uplifting melodic trance, psychedelic bass, experimental ambient music, and everything between, Au5 knows no boundaries for passionate musical exploration and expression. “A producer’s producer”.
Classically trained since age 4 and producing and performing since 13, Austin is a well rounded musician, visual artist, and educator. As an articulate public figure presenting unique artistic, scientific, and philosophical perspectives, he strives to better the world through inspiration - opening minds to what is possible not only within music but within ourselves.
From his debut album ‘Minimality’ in 2010 to now, Au5 has been consistent in quality and authenticity with a repertoire of nearly 200 released songs - many with multiple millions of plays. He's collaborated with legends BT, Tritonal, Slander, Mr. Bill, toured with acts such as Infected Mushroom, Liquid Stranger, Seven Lions, and has music released on numerous labels like Monstercat, Armada, Owsla, Enhanced, and Wakaan to name a few.
