Join artist Darcy Edinga of Silk Concepts as she guides you through the unique dyeing process using some fun resist techniques known as Shibori which incorporates the use of folding, binding, clamping, and stitching on 100% natural cotton. You will have the opportunity to create several samplers and feel free to bring in a cotton shirt.

Bio:
My interest in fiber art and fashion design manifested at a very young age. I remember sitting on the floor beside my mother and her sewing machine, in my glory creating masterpieces with her fallen fabric scraps! I grew up on the farm with no close neighbors, which left many hours for entertaining myself. Favourite pass-times included picking wild flowers, collecting frog eggs, and finding the best rocks ever! These activities shaped and influenced my perspective and creativity today.
I have been in business painting on silk since 1985 and still love what I do!
My art is nature-inspired, whimsical, and images often depict Canadian culture and history. I interpret color and design on the most amazing natural fiber, silk! Being very luxurious, it drapes beautifully, has an organic sheen, and is incredibly comfortable to wear, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. As a color enthusiast, I love the intense, bold colors that can be painted with dyes on to the silk. 
Quality is of utmost importance! Heart and soul is put into everything that comes out of the studio, creating art and wardrobe pieces that are extraordinary statements, or simple, elegant scarves. Creating beautiful fashion accessories is my passion, my pleasure. I treasure your feedback and love to know my creations are bringing joy to someone's life.

Instructor Bio: 
Karen Scarlett – Western Landscape Artist
Karen grew up fifth generation on the family dairy farm west of Innisfail, Alberta. She has made art her entire life.
The “Queens of the dairy” held a royal spot on the farm and took up much of the energy of the Scarlett family existence. It was a great life.
Creating has been a lifelong adventure and an important part of life for Karen. Art was practiced with Grandma Scarlett where she learned and important lesson – try everything. A love of power tools and creative design were honed with her Dad while hand-craft, sewing and creating with a sense of perfection were inspired by her Mom.
Karen takes her biggest inspiration from her love, Doug. They live in Calgary, Alberta where Karen works from her home studio.
Recently, Karen obtained a commission for 150 pieces of art to be installed in the Royal Palm Hotel and Resort in Miami, Florida. It was thrilling to receive this international recognition.
You can find Karen’s work in private, corporate and commercial collections across North America and in various spots around the globe.

Facilitator: Fran Kimmel
Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel will hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

Under the Rocks is one of Canada’s premier emerging bluegrass acts. This heartfelt, talented bluegrass quartet that blends uplifting energy with a reflective reverence for the difficulties of reality that marries joy and sorrow and declares “YES”. Yes to all that it means to be alive on this planet, here and now.  

Hailing from Kelowna, Canada, Under the Rocks has emerged from a city with no other bluegrass acts to become one of Canada’s premier bluegrass bands. Featuring acoustic guitar (Jordan Klassen), fiddle (Chloe Davidson), banjo and mandolin (Chris Baxter), and upright bass (Nils Loewen) the band makes a big sound that tips its cap to tradition while incorporating singer-songwriter music intentionally put together with clever, inventive song arrangements, emotive instrumental breaks and powerful vocal harmony. Their shows commonly feature dancing, laughter, joyful hoots and hollers and serene moments accompanied by tears and tranquil sighs of release or appreciation.

This class is an introduction to the encaustics medium.
Encaustic artist, Erinn Evans, will guide you through the basics of painting with encaustics. You will learn several techniques for creating pattern and texture. By the end of your class, you will go home with your very own encaustic painting. All materials supplied.

Artist Bio:
Erinn Evans is an encaustics artist working out of her home studio in Sherwood Park, Alberta, who has been working in the encaustics medium for the past five years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in Art. Erinn is a Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, as well as the International Encaustic Artists. She draws inspiration from animals and nature to create colourful paintings featuring patterns, depth, and texture. She has previously taught for the Leduc Arts Foundry and has consistently received great reviews from her encaustics students at the Artelier.

Join the Bracket Drag Series, a heart-pounding racing circuit that’s as much about camaraderie as it is about competition. Every weekend, racers, their families, friends, and fans come together at the track to experience the thrill of high-octane drag racing. Watch as drivers in dragsters, trucks, cars, and Junior Dragsters push their skills to the limit, battling for prize money and essential points toward the season championships.
In partnership with the NHRA Division 6 regional competition, the Bracket Drag Series highlights the very best in sportsman racing across various divisions, including Electronics, Non-Electronics, Top Eliminator, Street Sportsman, and Junior Dragster.

Each year Alberta's governing body for cheerleading, the Alberta Cheerleading Association (ACA), hosts one of the largest cheerleading and dance event in Western Canada! 
The ACA's True North Cheerleading and Dance Championships has raised the profile of the sport of cheerleading in Alberta, which has helped us to grow and change attitudes about the true athleticism and leadership that these athletes commit to.
In addition to this, as a non-profit association, the event is the ACA’s major fundraiser for the year. Funds raised help us to run our programs such as the education and training of coaches and judges, offering of awards and scholarships, and meeting the needs of scholastic and all-star cheerleading programs in the province of Alberta.

He's been featured on Just For Laughs and Edinburgh Fringe festivals, and is best known most recently for his role as SWAT officer in M.Night Shyamalan's Trap. Wahab has also appeared in TV shows, such as The Boys, What We Do In The Shadows, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He has garnered a loyal following of over 120k fans on Instagram and 220k on TikTok. Abbas is best known for his viral "job interview" and "automotive marketing" series, which parody the behind-the-scenes hiring and advertising of major brands. His comedic style has been described as electrifying and sharp, with grounded storytelling. Don’t miss him on the road!

All proceeds go to paying for the showcase venue and back into the Education Department to further theatrical education.

Rapid Fire Theatre has been making people laugh for nearly 40 years. Our improvisers are world-renowned for their top-notch comedy, and they love teaching people the tricks of the trade. Whether you’re just getting your feet wet or looking to brush up on the improv skills you have already, we have a public workshop that’s right for you.
Level 1 is a foundations workshop on the concepts of improvisation with a focus on agreement and confidence-building. In this class, you will be challenged to start obeying your impulse and to work collaboratively with others. A great way to challenge yourself and break out of your comfort zone!
No experience is necessary. Level 1: Introduction to Improv is a 4-week course.
