SPECTATORS:
This is an all day event.
The grounds will open for spectators at 12 noon on October 19. The show will start at 2:30 pm and will run until all heats and features are complete. There will be food, vendors and a lot of smashing and crashing to be had. Your entry fee is an all access entry with an invitation to walk the pit area to look at the cars or talk to the drivers. Spectators will be limited to the seating area in the covered grandstands. Only drivers will have access to the stands on the pit side of the track. No alcohol allowed. 
Gate admission:
Age 10+ $20 per person.
Children ages 2 - 9 $10.
Children under age 2 Free
 
This is a RAIN/SNOW OR SHINE event. NO REFUNDS due to weather. Please come prepared for any type of weather that may happen.

DRIVERS:
This is an all day event. Inspection will open at 8:00 am Oct 19 and close at 1:00 pm Sharp. If you are not through inspection or reinspection with a stick you will not run. NO EXCEPTIONS. 
Drivers receive free entry to the grounds with their paid entry fee. All others must purchase an admission ticket. 
Camping is available for $50 per night. There are limited spaces and are provided by first come first served.

The HANES CORN MAZE is a human sized puzzle, carved into over 18 acres of 10' tall walls of cornstalks! Find all the checkpoints and solve the puzzle. This is an event for all ages, bring the kids for help!
This is our 25TH year! Join us for a fun filled adventure through our giant corn! Follow a Map that leads to checkpoints. Solve clues. Find them all and come get a prize. If you get out...
Expect the Maze to take between 1-2 hours to complete depending on your age, experience, weather, and day or night.
Maze runs rain or shine so dress for the weather. Wear proper footwear. The paths in the Maze can accommodate strollers but this may be difficult directly after or during rain.

"Astrud & the Way to Brazil" showcases the familiar, the forgotten and...the legacy
Band members Barbara Mantini, Randy Stirtzinger, Rob McBride, Bill Melymuka, and Kevin Lipischak bring together their individual talents to create a beautiful and uplifting musical experience that transports audiences to the beaches of Brazil.
Their passion for Bossa Nova music is evident in every performance they give, striving to honour the legacy created by Astrud Gilberto, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and others, staying true to this unique style, as well as presenting their own take on this music.

WHO IS ASTRUD?
Alongside the creators of the bossa nova, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, known as the “Queen of Bossa Nova",  helped to put the spotlight on 1960’s Brazilian music and culture. 
To this day, their legacy continues to inspire musicians of all nationalities to keep the timeless sounds of Brazilian music alive and well.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Barbara Mantini
Barbara is a powerful and versatile vocal artist, with a professional singing and acting career spanning over 30 years. She is best known as one of the members of Canada’s premier vocal trio “The Mantini Sisters”, who have performed across Canada and the United States in their own productions.
As well as performing at music festivals and concert series as a jazz vocal artist, or classical soprano, Barbara has ventured into a solo cabaret project called “Broadway Divas”. She has also been a featured soloist with many symphony orchestras.
When not performing, Barbara teaches in the “Acting for Film and Television Program” at Niagara College and at her own private voice studio in Welland.
“Sweeping the crowd into the moment of each song…Mantini proved, once again, to be a consummate entertainer that can go from torch to theatrical singer in a heartbeat, and do both stunningly well.” L. Peppas, The Tribune
Randy Stirtzinger has been and still is to this day, a pillar of jazz music in the Niagara community. He has performed all over the region and beyond as a pianist, bass player and vibraphone player. He first discovered his passion for jazz when he heard Oscar Peterson’s ‘Hello Herbie’ album, Herbie Hancock’s ‘Maiden Voyage’ album and HH’s ‘Headhunters album’ around the of age 16. Since then he has never looked back. His first instrument is the bass guitar and later on came piano, vibes, latin percussion and then upright string bass. Some of his influences include: Milt Jackson, Cal Tjader, Tito, Mongo, Ray Brown, Don Patterson, to name just a few.
Rob McBride is a highly in-demand bassist and bandleader who has been performing in the Toronto jazz scene for the last 25 years, playing at many of the city’s top jazz venues. While specializing in jazz, Rob is also influenced by solo classical and improvised bass music and has incorporated creative aspects of these elements into his sound through his five-string acoustic bass. Headliner performances includes the TD Niagara Jazz Festival (2014) and the Brampton World of Jazz Festival (2017). Rob has played with some of Canada’s finest musicians, including Pat LaBarbera, Don Thompson, Ted Warren, Sarah Jerrom, and Adrean Farrugia. He has played with the pit orchestra for the Shaw Festival and the Niagara Symphony Orchestra. Rob has played on many critically-acclaimed albums including recordings by Sarah Jerrom, Beverly Taft, Jeff King, and Barbara Mantini.
After meeting the Stirzinger brothers in 1979, Kevin Lipishak has been playing jazz in the Niagara Region since 1985. His main gig has been as house drummer for Jazz Express Saturday afternoon sessions for the last 36 years and still running. Kevin has also played with all of the local jazz musicians in various groups from trios to big band and latin groups throughout the Niagara Peninsula.

How to Submit
Please submit an abstract (maximum 250 words) to the Microsoft CMT site on any topic related to perception, cognition, or performance of music and dance. Describe the motivation, methodology, results, and implications of your study. Theoretical contributions are welcome, provided that the connection to music perception and cognition is made clear.
Note: If you are unable to attend the conference in person, you are welcome to submit an abstract with the option of having the poster and a 3 minute explanatory video included virtually on the conference website.
The deadline for abstract submissions is September 23rd, 2024. 
Review Process
Each abstract will be reviewed by members of the scientific program committee. Early submission is encouraged as acceptance will be sent out on a rolling basis as submissions are received. All submissions will be notified of acceptance by October 7th, 2024.
Final Submission
 Upon acceptance, you will have the opportunity to upload a poster and a short ‘teaser’ video (30 seconds)that will be featured in a poster blitz session at the conference. Posters must be a maximum of 4’ x 4’ (122 x 122 cm). Virtual attendees will also have the opportunity to submit a 3-minute video describing their poster and a zoom link for chatting with participants. All posters (virtual and in-person) and other materials (e.g., videos) will be accessible for several months after the conference on the conference website.

Exploring the impacts of generational trauma, loss, and resilience, Where Olive Trees Weep offers a window into the lives of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation in the West Bank. Filmed in 2022, this documentary illuminates the experiences and insights of Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. It also bears witness to Dr. Gabor Maté’s trauma-healing work, honouring each individual’s humanity and the strength it requires to heal and persist.

He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s, the folk-rock movement of the ’70s, and then the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s, and his music has left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks have cited Tom as a major influence. His early recordings introduced the world to the works of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Subsequently, his Club 47 concerts brought national attention to emerging artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin. Sisters Natalie (cello) and Brittany Haas (fiddle) began their musical lives together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and Old-Time tunes alike.
It was on their own, however—following divergent paths through disparate musical traditions, countries, and cultures—that they both arrived as virtuosi and composers at the highest levels of contemporary string music.
Fans of acoustic music can hardly mention one without referencing the other’s work. Credited with putting cello on the map of contemporary Celtic music, Natalie brings a wealth of world influences to her instrument, fashioning a tone and rhythmic sense that transcends any single tradition.
Along with her longtime collaborator Alasdair Fraser, with whom she has released seven albums, Natalie has charted a new course through the string music of Scotland, Ireland, Spain, and beyond—all without losing the influence of classical technique or her American roots, the combination of which have been on display since her earliest years, particularly in her remarkable ease in toggling between the worlds of traditional fiddle camps and Juilliard, where she studied classical performance.
A These two brightest lights of contemporary strings join forces for a collaboration a lifetime in the making and a music encompassing travels through time and through the world. The fundraiser supports our member artists; a collective of over 600 artists with lived experience with mental health and/or addiction. We empower our artists through creation and presentation, offering access to professional development programs, presentation opportunities in and outside of Workman Arts, and studio spaces free of cost. 
Member artists are as different from each other as their artistic practices. They vary in age, ethnicity, education, work experience, goals and aspirations. With your support, our member artists can continue to access our services barrier free, sustaining our commitment to accessibility and uplifting diverse voices in the arts.

SynopsisDr. Jules Arita Koostachin’s deeply personal documentary WaaPaKe (Tomorrow) asks the difficult question: “Who are we without our pain?” For generations, the suffering of residential school Survivors has radiated outward, impacting Indigenous families and communities. In WaaPaKe (Tomorrow), Koostachin’s film moves beyond intergenerational trauma, with an invitation to unravel the tangled threads of silence and unite in collective freedom and power through making the challenging decision to step in front of the camera herself and participate in the circle of truth.  She is joined in this courageous act of solidarity by members of her immediate family as well as an array of voices from Indigenous communities across Turtle Island. Moving beyond burying intergenerational trauma, WaaPaKe (Tomorrow) is an invitation to unravel the tangled threads of silence and unite in collective freedom and power.

SynopsisIn the winter of 1970, a small town plumber from rural New Brunswick, must drive his beat-up work truck 1000 miles to Toronto to get his estranged, gay brother out of jail after being arrested for having sex in a public park. The two men are then forced to drive back home together at the behest of their hard-nosed mother before they kill each other. Inspired by a true story.
“Drive Back Home is a story that’s inspired by true events that happened in the 1960s to my grandfather, Ernie Clowater, and his brother, my great uncle, Hedley Clowater. The only time that my grandfather ever left New Brunswick in his life was when he drove up to Montreal to get his brother out of jail for having sex with a man. However, I could never understand WHY an uneducated plumber who didn’t know anyone outside of New Brunswick would be able to get his brother out of jail for committing an actual crime. What I discovered was that, unofficially, police departments were motivated to get these cases off the books by offering to drop the charges if family members or employers came to vouch for them. By forcing these men to “out” themselves to people that mattered to them, the police were satisfying two needs at once. The first was to relieve themselves of paperwork and the second was to ensure that the people they took so much offense to still had their lives ruined., If you’re a young black person in 2024 and you want to know what life was like for ordinary black Canadians in the 1960s, you can ask your black grandparents. But if you’re gay, you don’t have gay grandparents to ask. A film like this would have been the only way for him to see that life., I also wanted this to be real and authentic and funny. I wanted the two men to be imperfect and littered with their own personal baggage that we all have. I used western themes and wanted to give it a cinematic feel of a western by using snow and bleak landscape of a Canadian winter in the same way that John Forde or Sergio Leone would use the harsh landscape of a desert.” - Michael Clowater

SynopsisUnemployment, poverty, disease and domestic violence are commonplace in the township of Alexandra in Johannesburg. For young mothers, who often have to raise their children alone, they barely have time for themselves and their babies. A group of women from the Ububele Home Visiting program are working to transform the neighborhood by improving the mental well-being of mothers and their babies. 1001 Days centers on home visits made by three women: Thandiwe, Khosi and Zanele. Building trust with the young mothers requires attention and sensitivity; they take time to hold intimate, often painful conversations—just as the filmmakers themselves take the time to show their intimate exchanges.

RUSH TICKETS & INFORMATIONIf a program is off sale, you can come to the venue starting one hour before the event begins to place your name on our Rush list. Rush tickets are sold at the start of the event and patrons are seated just after introductions while trailers are playing. To avoid having your seat given to a Rush patron, please plan to arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes before the program begins.
ACCESS INFORMATIONAll of our venues are fully accessible. If you require ASL/Interpretation, please inquire no later than October 18th, 2024. We will do our best to accommodate requests for ASL/Interpretation made later than this date but cannot guarantee availability of ASL/Interpreters. Live captioning provided for most spoken events and Q&A's. Open Captions for the vast majority of films. Films in other languages are always presented with English subtitles.
