The Ball’s Falls Thanksgiving Festival is a Niagara tradition, and this year, NPCA is excited to celebrate 50 years of heritage, culture and memories by making the 2024 festival bigger and better than ever!

For the kids, there is endless entertainment and fun – including free face-painting, mini-train rides, and live birds-of-prey shows. SPURS night is Toronto and Montréal's beloved line dancing night for queer people and their friends. Inspired by the history of LGBTQ+ cowboy culture that lives on through social dancing in LA and beyond, Kathleen Munroe ran the first few evenings at various venues in the West End of the city before it found its home at Owls Club, a charming legion hall where folks come by every Sunday night for lessons, dancing, and mingling with a friendly pocket of the queer community. In its first year, SPURS has been joined by Noël in Montréal, as well as Nessie, Meredith, and Veronique in Toronto, and these callers, as well as their growing community of regulars, keep the night going strong. They're partnerin' up with Buddies in Bad Times to bring SPURS night to a historically queer space in the Village on every second Thursday of the month at Tallulah's Cabaret. Come by for a few beginner-friendly follow-alongs, two proper lessons every evening, and dancing to country music and queer favorites late into the night!

Roberta Joan Mitchell, professionally known as Joni Mitchell, is one of Canada’s most iconic and influential singer-songwriters. Drawing from folk, pop, rock and jazz, Mitchell’s songwriting has touched on social and environmental ideals and often delved deeply into personal confessions of romance, confusion, disillusionment and joy. She has received innumerable accolades, notable among them being an impressive collection of no less than ten Grammy Awards. AllMusic has stated that “When the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand as the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century.”

Shawn Phillips: The man whom Bill Graham called “The best kept secret in the music business”, who taught Joni Mitchell her first guitar techniques, also taught George Harrison of the Beatles his first lessons on Sitar, the man who wrote the music to Donovan’s “Season Of The Witch” and has played with many of the finest musicians in the world including Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood. He’s produced 27 albums and is known around the world for his refusal to bow down to commercialism in the music industry. He has done what many singer/songwriters don’t do, which is to continue to evolve his creative skills in his concerts. When he comes into a venue, he brings the sounds of an entire Symphony Orchestra in real time and plays the songs so many love as close as possible to what was recorded on the albums. Americana music fans may recognize Jim White as the narrator and defacto tour guide for the award winning BBC documentary, Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus, a road movie set in the rural South which the LA Times described as “Decidedly strange, delightfully demented.” Released in 2003, the film has attained cult status among southern gothic fans far and wide.
Numerous songs from White’s back catalog have appeared in film and television, with his Primus-esque Word-Mule being featured in the Heisenberg Episode of Breaking Bad, while more recently Jim’s dreamy duet with Aimee Mann, Static on the Radio, graced the closing credits of the feature film El Camino. The goal was to celebrate Lightfoot's work and feature a revolving mix of contemporary Canadian roots, folk, jazz and blues artists.First performed in 2003, this once-annual celebration called Toronto’s Hugh’s Room home every January for 14 years for multi-night sold out shows. The show has also toured Ontario 5 times playing SRO-concerts in various soft seat theatres across the province.Over the years, the concert has featured more than 100 different Canadian artists, among them multiple JUNO, ECMA, WCMA, Maple Blues and CFMA-award winners, all bringing their unique musical vision to dozens of classic Lightfoot songs. Gordon Lightfoot himself even joined in and performed onstage at a number of the concerts!In 2017, The Way We Feel culminated in a 15th anniversary gala concert at Toronto’s Glenn Gould theatre, as well as a special anniversary series of concerts at Hugh's Room Live in 2019.Current producer and performer Jory Nash is excited and honoured to bring the final performances of The Way We Feel to Hugh's Room and the Rosedale United Church community, to once again celebrate the music of Gordon Lightfoot. We dedicate these shows to him and will remember him always.This special edition of The Way We Feel will feature a stellar line up of artists including: Matthew Barber, The Young Novelists, Burke Carroll, Lori Cullen, Dala, Jason Fowler, John McDermott,  Anne Lindsay, David Matheson, Jory Nash, Suzie Vinnick and David Woodhead with emcee David Newland. Saturday September 28 at Rosedale Center and Sunday September 29 at Hugh's Room.
