Class Description:
Unleash your creativity and curiosity in our Introductory Taxidermy Class hosted by The Sleeping Sirens! Designed for beginners, this hands-on course offers a fascinating glimpse into the art and science of taxidermy. 
What to Expect:
Class begins promptly at 10am and ends at 4pm. 
We provide each student with either a skinned, cleaned, and tanned racoon or rabbit hide depending on the workshop you are taking. 
The first half of class is focused on preparing your form, setting the eyes, test fitting and mounting the hide, as well as grooming. 
After our first 30-minute break class shifts towards base preparation and mounting your project. 
The class runs for approximately 6 hours with two 30-minute breaks throughout the day.

Join us as we guide you through the techniques of preparing and pinning insects, transforming them into beautiful, display-ready specimens.
What to Expect:
This workshop has both AM and PM availability, so it is of the utmost importance that you verify the correct date and time of your specific class. 
The AM class will begin promptly at 10am while the PM class will begin promptly at 1:30pm.
You will learn the foundational skills of bug pinning, including safe collection methods, proper handling, and the step-by-step process of pinning and mounting insects.

Jordan Caiola (CAI•OLA) is a songwriter/musician/producer based out of Philadelphia. He founded the indie rock band Mo Lowda & The Humble in 2010 and, due to its intense touring schedule, the band became his main priority along with his side project NightSeason (founded in 2016) - an indie/electro-pop producer duo. Though he always felt writing folk songs was his true “wheelhouse”, it wasn’t until the nationwide lockdown in early 2020 that he finally put aside the time to record a collection of those songs for his first solo album ‘Only Real When Shared’. In celebration of Earth Month, discover Indigenous history and ecological heritage with us as we partner with The Indigenous Peoples Garden Inc. (formally known as AKI WIIDOOKAAGEWIN (Earth Helpers) for a unique walking tour of the Bloor-Annex neighbourhood. The journey will begin at the Indigenous Botanical Garden in Paul Martel Park (10 Madison Ave. Toronto) where a local guide will share the rich ecological and Indigenous history of the Annex. Along the way, pause to admire a vibrant mural by artist Joseph Sagaj from the Anishnaabe of the Sturgeon Clan, then enjoy a short 5-minute walk along Bloor Street West to the Bata Shoe Museum. At the museum, Grandmother Vivian Recollet, in conversation with Justine Woods, Curator of Indigenous Collections, will share a selection of moccasin belongings from the BSM’s collection and speak to the connections between Indigenous footwear and stories of the land. The tour concludes with a reflection on lost rivers and lakes at Philosophers Walk. Participants are then invited to continue their journey with a self-guided tour of the Bata Shoe Museum’s current exhibitions.
