Sophie Lukacs is a Budapest born, Montreal-based, kora player, and singer songwriter. She blends Mandingue, folk, pop, and classical music genres to create a distinctive style. Inspired by 7 years of study in Mali with Kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, and her musical background in Western classical violin and Hungarian folk, Sophie's music - rooted in love and vulnerability - forges an intimate bond with audiences all over.
She released her debut album in 2023 featuring two tracks with legendary Habib Koité, which won Best Global Roots Music Album of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards. On stage, Sophie is accompanied by cello and percussion, and sings in all the languages she speaks: English, French, Hungarian and Bambara.

🎵 Sweet Delirium [Shoegaze, R&B, Post-Punk]Sweet Delirium is a 4-piece band based in Victoria, British Columbia, and consists of Irene Paule, Tev Uslu, Liam St. John and Greg Bertado. An eclectic mix of dream pop, shoegaze and R&B are showcased by melancholy instrumentation & soulful vocals. The band's debut single 'Necessities' was recorded and released through bandcamp during March 2020 and the band is currently in the recording process of their first album.
🎸 Charis Tazumi [Indie Folk, Singer-songwriter]Charis Tazumi is an independent singer-songwriter based out of Victoria B.C, who shares her most heartfelt thoughts through wistful instrumentations and compelling lyricism. In May 2024, she released her debut album “In Subtle Ways”, recorded in Victoria with friend and collaborator Brendan Wong, as well other multi-genre and talented musicians. The album captures the subtle yet transformative moments of her life, weaving in narratives of delightful over imagination, the sweetness of starting a life with someone, and the feeling of finally waking up. While Charis is inspired by various genres such as folk, pop, indie, and alternative, the through line is Charis’ authenticity as a songwriter and the ethereal and compelling nature of her melodies.

🎤 Sofia Miller [Alternative Folk, Shoegaze]Sofia Miller is an independent solo artist, producer based in Victoria, British Columbia. She has made her most recent mark with her first full-length studio album, "Prologue". Recorded in Montreal with producer Guillaume Guilbault, this record reflects Sofia's personal journey of moving from the East to the West of Canada, addressing the growing pains and the profound realizations that come with one's early 20s. From her creative guitar licks to her soft airy falsetto, 'Prologue' is full of Sofia's untaught, unique sonics but this time backed with an all-star band and a hifi sound. This release is her fullest realization as an artist thus far as she departs from her makeshift bedroom sound to a more vivid and rich aural world.

Vancouver Island based singer-songwriters John Gogo and Allen Dobb are joining together for an intimate acoustic concert at the Victoria Events Centre on Sunday, October 20th.
John Gogo released his sixth album Western Balladeer in July 2024. The recording which includes “Larry’s Grandad” and “Cougar Annie” reveals just what an inspired and skillful folk songwriter John Gogo has become.
Alone Together, Allen Dobb’s fourth full-length release, came out earlier this year, and is a finely crafted collection of Americana-style songs inspired by the stories, landscapes, and characters Dobb has encountered working as a range management specialist in the BC Interior.
The pair are seasoned veterans of the Canadian music scene, and longtime friends. Balladeer and actor John Gogo is best known for writing and performing his folksongs about the people and places he knows, the true and the tall tales of the west coast and the islands. From Haida Gwaii to St. John's to Old Crow, John has played community halls and big houses, festivals and pubs, theatres, and beer parlors.
Allen Dobb’s musical journey has taken him to Austin, TX, Nashville, TN, Lesotho, Southern Africa, and places in between. He has performed at the Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Mariposa folk festivals and at the legendary Bumbershoot Festival in the U.S. He has toured the U.K. and shared the stage with a diverse group of artists including Shawn Colvin, Jann Arden, Jesse Winchester, Peter Case, Darden Smith, Stephen Fearing, Roy Forbes, and Ziggy Marley.

Canadian Beauty was gutted to learn of the closing of the Victoria Event Centre, and jumped at the chance to put on a Last Kick At The Can show before it closes. We've even dropped our ticket prices a bunch to say fare thee well to that beautiful room with as many friends as possible!
For over 25 years, Victoria's Canadian Beauty has been keeping the Dead alive with their spirited performances. Expect lots of group improvisation, folky roots-country, harmony singing and dance floor favourites. As always, there's a different setlist every show!
Canadian Beauty's first ever Grateful Dead tribute show was in 1999 at Thursday's Pub, later known as Logan's. Over the years tributes to Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Band, The Allman Brothers Band and Gram Parsons have appeared.
Canadian Beauty and all their variations endeavour to make the music they play their own. As skilled improvisors, they'd rather put their personal stamp on the songs than perform note-for-note renditions. Canadian fiddler Frankie Rodgers composed Ookpik Waltz in 1965. By the early 1970s, it had lost its title, its composer was unknown, and fiddlers around North America had invented a mythical provenance for it, based on Hollywood’s inaccurate portrayals of Native American and First Nations’ music.The Mystery of the Ookpik restores credit to Frankie Rodgers and his rich performing and recording career. It shows how his Ukrainian heritage colored his composition and performance of Ookpik Waltz. It explains his move to New Zealand, after Canadian radio’s adherence to American broadcast trends left him without an audience. It details how Ookpik Waltz entered the fiddle contest scene, and how it was folk processed so that Rodgers’ original recording is viewed as “wrong” by contemporary audiences.
Joe Weed, Producer and Director of The Mystery of the Ookpik, has released seven albums of his own, produced many projects for independent artists and labels, and composes scores for film, TV, and museums. Ken Burns features one of Joe’s compositions in his 2023 documentary “The American Buffalo,” broadcast nationally on PBS, as well as in “The Mayo Clinic,” also broadcast on PBS.Joe produced and directed “The Waltz to Westphalia,” a 55-minute documentary film that tells the fascinating story of a Polish folk song’s metamorphosis into an American country fiddle classic, known in the US as “The Westphalia Waltz.” An expert on the life and music of Stephen Foster, he produced “Swanee, The Music of Stephen Foster.” Combining his research, storytelling, and musicianship, he has informed and inspired audiences on both sides of the Pacific about America’s first professional songwriter. In 2018, Joe released “Two Steps West of the Mississippi,” a collection of his original instrumental music based on American fiddle roots. He continues to produce acoustic music at his Highland Studios near Los Gatos, California.

Moved by this concept, celebrated BC singer-songwriters Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone collaborated to produce a project thatis a dialogue through song and a tribute to the legendary songwriter. Reimagining bothrare and classic works of Cohen, the duo have crafted a sound that resonates with bothlongtime Cohen fans and a younger audience.Tower of Song began as a one-off tribute night for a packed house at Vancouver’s TheMedia Club, and has since grown into a nationally touring folk duo. Glenna GarramoneBased in Victoria, BC, Canada, Glenna Garramone is equally at home as a solo artistand in collaboration with a wide range of performers. Daniel LappDaniel Lapp is a world-renowned singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, teacher, archivist, band leader, sideman, producer, promoter and – no kidding – the list goes on. And like the true-blue Canadian he is, Daniel does it all with trademark energy and warmth.  As a fiddler, jazz trumpeter and singer/songwriter, Daniel Lapp has played on over 100 albums and performed across Canada, United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Finland and Germany with some of the world’s most renowned Folk and Jazz musicians. Daniel is the winner of the B.C. Fiddle Championship and has appeared as a soloist with the CBC Chamber Orchestra as well as the Prince George, Victoria, and Vancouver Symphonies.  A legendary force in Canada’s fiddle scene, in addition to his outstanding performing, Daniel has been musical mentor to hundreds of students—many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the music industry.
Adrian DolanAdrian Dolan is an award-winning producer, engineer, multi-instrumentalist and composer based on Vancouver Island BC, Canada. Perhaps best known for his work with the award-winning roots ensemble The Bills over the past decade and a half, his skills as a violinist, fiddler, pianist and accordionist have landed him on stage with some of the best in the business.

 Raised in Victoria, BC and classically trained on piano, violin, and viola, Adrian began composing at a young age, and performing professionally in his mid teens. His pursuits soon included jazz and studies of traditional fiddle music with Daniel Lapp, who also put his skills to use as a piano accompanist for guest appearances with the Victoria Symphony, and summer festivals around the province.

In its 31st year, and as popular today as ever, one of this country’s most joyous annual traditions returns to Victoria this December with two performances! 
Known for sold-out houses and standing ovations, this ensemble is a "must-see" ticket on the holiday calendar. Winter Harp is a joyous concert experience that has captured the spirit of the season, and audience's hearts, for more than three decades. On stage, Winter Harp’s outstanding musicians and singers, clad in beautiful medieval attire, perform a collection of music that ranges from familiar carols to Celtic, medieval and world tunes.
The Alix Goolden theatre sets a gorgeous backdrop for the ensemble's golden Celtic and classical harps, drums, tambourines, temple bells, flutes, and an assortment of beautiful, ancient and rare instruments, including the ethereal-sounding bass psaltery (the only one like it in the world), the organistrum (an early form of the hurdy-gurdy) and the Swedish nyckelharpa.

Caravan World Rhythms presents an uplifting evening of Klezmer music from Odessa, Ukraine with Kommuna Lux (on tour in support of Ukraine), and Victoria's Balkan Dance Party legends, Bučan Bučan! 
Come fall in love with Odesa, Ukraine, the Pearl of the Black Sea! Kommuna Lux 7-piece band brings you the heritage music of their beloved hometown. Klezmer, Balkan, and Urban Chanson, with a dash of Ukrainian Folk and powered by rocket fuel, Kommuna Lux impacts the crowd with a nostalgic, high-energy Big Band sound from the bygone days of speakeasies and rum runners.
Opening the evening is Victoria's Balkan music legends, Bučan Bučan! Made up of a very colourful and talented collection of musicians playing trumpets, violins, clarinets, tubas, accordions, trombones and drums, Bučan Bučan has been entertaining crowds for the last decade with its variety of traditional, eastern European brass band tunes and original material inspired by Balkan rhythms and melodies.
