One of the most exciting and original ensembles in the Italian celtic and world music sceneEnsemble Sangineto is an eclectic band which skillfully blends ancient harmonies and sonorities with modern rhythms. Founded by the Sangineto twins, Caterina and Adriano, whose father is respected Italian luthier Michele Sangineto, they were brought up hearing famous artists such as Derek Bell of the Chieftains, and Breton harpist and singer Alan Stivell. With guitarist Jacopo,the experiences of the individual members converge,creatingfresh and new arrangements of traditional Irish, Scottish, Breton, Italian, and original compositions that display influences fromvaried musical genres; from classical to folk, Gregorian chant to Celtic music. They have performed at renowned venues such as Club Passim and Caffe Lena.

Santur player, composer, and cultural inventor Amir Amiri dwells at the centre of a unique musical universe where ancient inspiration, dazzling virtuosity, and bold creativity meet. Surrounding himself with outstanding collaborators from the worlds of jazz, classical and world music, Amiri fearlessly transcends genres and borders, exquisitely transporting his ancient instrument into the musical conversations of our time. Born in Tehran, Iran, Amiri is a master of the santur, a 72-string instrument dating from approximately 500 BCE.
Since arriving in Canada in 1996, Amiri has created numerous groundbreaking ensembles including the Amir Amiri Ensemble, inspired by the fluidity of musical influences in Iran. The Amir Amiri ensemble is an ensemble of virtuoso musicians from the Persian tradition: Amir Amiri (santur),  Abdul-Wahab Khayyali (oud), Reza Abaee (ghaychak),  Omar Abu Afech (Viola), and Hamin Honari (percussion). Inspired by the diversity and fluidity of the many musical influences of Iran, the Amir Amiri Ensemble creates an engaging and distinctive sound fusing the refinement of traditional and spiritual Persian music with folkloric and modern elements. In seeking to expand the boundaries of these musical traditions, balancing heritage and innovation, they find that the possibilities are limitless. Join us at Saxe Point Pub from 8-10PM on December 8th, for a sensual Shakespearean-themed night you will not forget! At this evening you will see a wide variety of local artists (some fresh-faced newcomers and some known-beloveds) participating in our jam-packed fundraiser. Saxe Point Pub will be offering a special menu during our event, for one night only- so come hungry, for a quart of ale is a dish for a king. All proceeds of this event will go towards the Shakespearean performances you know and love: GVSF’s summer season (to be announced very soon!) 
We hope to bring you the most spectacular shows possible, we strive to pay our artists as much as possible, all while aiming to keep the arts as accessible as possible. With these principles in mind, this event has flexible ticket pricing, ranging from $25 and up, allowing those who can to pay as much as they desire.
The more we can raise together, the easier it is for us to keep ticket prices for our summer shows low. Last year we had record highs of low cost/free entry tickets given to community members, and we hope to beat that number this year.

Santur player, composer, and cultural inventor Amir Amiri dwells at the centre of a unique musical universe where ancient inspiration, dazzling virtuosity, and bold creativity meet. Surrounding himself with outstanding collaborators from the worlds of jazz, classical and world music, Amiri fearlessly transcends genres and borders, exquisitely transporting his ancient instrument into the musical conversations of our time. Born in Tehran, Iran, Amiri is a master of the santur, a 72-string instrument dating from approximately 500 BCE.
Since arriving in Canada in 1996, Amiri has created numerous groundbreaking ensembles including the Amir Amiri Ensemble, inspired by the fluidity of musical influences in Iran. The Amir Amiri ensemble is an ensemble of virtuoso musicians from the Persian tradition: Amir Amiri (santur),  Abdul-Wahab Khayyali (oud), Reza Abaee (ghaychak),  Omar Abu Afech (Viola), and Hamin Honari (percussion). World travel may have its attractions, but in the end there’s no place like home. In the privacy of a comfortable music room, Baroque keyboard players could explore musical ideas that were too intimate—or too irreveren —for a formal public setting. This program explores the capabilities of the Brombaugh chamber organ at St Barnabas Church to capture the sounds of home: laughter and tears, songs and dances, and even the sounds of a few domestic animals.

A concert is not just a performance; it is a gathering of community in a shared space, and that space is part of a living landscape with its own history and stories. As we gather today to share in the experience of sound, it's important to recognize how sound moves through space, how it connects us, and how it shapes our experiences. Sound itself is carried by the space its in—it resonates within the air and reflected off earth that have been cared for by First Nations for time immemorial. 
 
ready, set sound! presents a night of fierce, folk-driven, foot-stomping music. You won’t want to miss this night of raw acoustic energy! Proceeds from this event will go to the Victoria Women’s Transition House Society, supporting their vital work with women and children in our community.

Ben Mason 🎸
Ben Mason is a musician and songwriter based in Victoria whose influences are varied and always shifting, but whose foundations can be found in the country, folk, and punk world. His goal is to give back a bit of what has been given to him by other artists creating what is genuine to them.

2x Irish music award-winning 34-year-old toothless nonbinary westcoast artist ‘q’ (they/them), formerly qristina bachand is a consummate performer who is clearly at ease on stage , & they are known for their powerful fiddle & captivating vocals. their contagious energy and love of Folk and Celtic music is always at the forefront, moving audiences with energetic and spirited performances which showcase their propensities for fiddling as well as song & story-sharing. q suffers from schizoaffective disorder, but finds ways to discern meaning and inspiration in life from their constant struggle with mental health and addictions; playing music and making art!
 
The Oldest Man I Know 🪕
The Oldest Man I Know plays traditional music untraditionally. They earnestly blend the alternative music they grew up on with the traditional music they grew to love. They are an all acoustic trio based in Victoria, British Columbia.

Tickets are $25 general admission, $20 for seniors, $10 for students. Children 12 and under are free with an adult, however we ask that you select a Children's ticket when purchasing your adult ticket so that we have an accurate seat count. Maximum free children's tickets per adult is two (2). Any additional children's tickets may be purchased at the $10 student price. Thank you.

This program includes one of J.S. Bach’s best-loved cantatas, the “wedding” cantata, BWV 202, along with the sunny violin concerto in E Major, and a ‘fictive’ wedding cantata compiled by Dorothee Mields of iindividual movements from other Bach works. A feast of joyful music!

The German Reformation initiated by Martin Luther, along with the invention of the printing press, led to religious and cultural unrest, culminating in the Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648). This resulted in an exceptionally fertile time in the arts, with writers, artists and composers reflecting the horrors of war and the longing for peace and heavenly pleasures.

​Why stay at home when there’s a whole world to explore? In the organ lofts of Europe’s great cathedrals, Baroque keyboard players had unparalleled resources for musical expression, with all the grandeur and drama you could wish for. This program will take us on a musical tour of seventeenth- century Europe, stopping at the great churches of five major cities to hear the resident organists improvising: Seville, Rome, Augsburg, Passau, and Lübeck. The organ at Christ Church Cathedral provides an ideal venue for this program, which features some of the gloriously colourful South German music that inspired Helmuth Wolff to build this instrument.
