Pianist Simone Dinnerstein first made a splash with MCO audiences in 2018, when she premiered a concerto by her collaborator Philip Glass. While this connection speaks volumes about her towering talent and reputation, it’s as an interpreter of the great Bs that this artist of “strikingly original ideas” (Washington Post) is best known. She’s “one of the great Beethoven pianists of our time” (Philadelphia Inquirer) and “a unique voice in the forest of Bach interpretation” (New York Times). You can hear just how unique in her breathtaking NPR Tiny Desk Concert and at this MCO concert.
Awadagin Pratt  Before he was 25, Awadagin Pratt became the first African American pianist to win the Naumburg International Piano Competition, one of the world’s oldest music competitions. Since then, he’s performed with nearly every major orchestra in the US, at the White House, and, that great winner of young hearts and minds, Sesame Street. Awadagin famously earned degrees from the Peabody Conservatory in conducting, violin, and piano. He’s a brilliant beacon in today’s music world, one of the “great American pianists” (WGBH), and we’re thrilled to work with him again.

Josh Bonneteau is an up-and-coming drummer and recent graduate of the University of Manitoba's jazz program. Known for his dynamic performances, he has made a strong impression in the Winnipeg music scene, performing at iconic venues and festivals such as the Burton Cummings Theatre, the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, Harvest Moon Festival, and Jazz at the Fort Garry Hotel. Throughout his career, Bonneteau has had the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed musicians like Will Bonness, Jon Gordon, Ron Paley, and Pasquale Grasso, showcasing his talent alongside some of the jazz world's most respected artists.

David Braid is “one of his country's true renaissance men” (Ottawa Sun). The composer, improviser, and pianist is a ten-time JUNO nominee and four-time recipient. To single out a few more accomplishments: his chamber music album, FLOW, is “an exceptional work” (Los Angeles Examiner), while his spectacular compositions for Ethan Hawke’s Born to Be Blue surely explain why it’s considered one of the top jazz films of all time. From Hollywood to New York’s coolest jazz clubs, from Armenia to Canada’s most illustrious classical stages, this musical wanderer has clearly been everywhere – except the MCO. This will soon change in spectacular fashion.
Mark Fewer
Mark Fewer has performed around the world to critical acclaim in virtually every role asked of a violinist, and then some. In a career that now spans over three decades, he’s graced Carnegie, Wigmore and Salle Pleyel, performed with Stevie Wonder, and appeared with major orchestras all over the world. Fewer has presented the premieres of over 200 works – some may recall his mind-blowing Canadian premiere of John Adams’ "The Dharma at Big Sur” for 6-string electric violin and orchestra a few years ago. The “genre-bending” (National Post) virtuoso is just as at home in early baroque as he is in jazz and the avant-garde. His collaboration with Braid will be something special. 
Janna Sailor 
Janna Sailor is an acclaimed conductor, violinist, and visionary in the Canadian music scene. As the newly appointed Director of the Canadian Music Centre, Prairie Region, she is recognized for her commitment to inclusivity and innovation. She founded the Allegra Chamber Orchestra, a groundbreaking ensemble of female-identifying musicians with a mission to champion underrepresented voices and create change through music. Janna’s work emphasizes community engagement, including music programs for disadvantaged youth and initiatives supporting immigrants. She was named to Women in Music Canada’s “Honour Roll – 10 Female Artists to Watch” in 2023 and received the Betty Webster Award for Orchestral Innovation. Under her direction, Allegra recently premiered The IndigiDivas, spotlighting Indigenous opera singers. Janna is also pursuing an Executive MBA with the Global Leaders Institute for Arts Innovation, focusing on social entrepreneurship and community development.

Best of Bands as Bands w/ LCD Soundsystem, The Stokes & Barenaked Ladies

Karly Epp is a Canadian jazz vocalist known for her expressive voice and nuanced performances. Deeply influenced by the legendary Sarah Vaughan, Epp's style honours the rich tradition of jazz while infusing it with her own contemporary flair. In 2017, Epp was named a semi-finalist in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition. This recognition underscored her commitment to carrying forward Vaughan's legacy, both in her performances and her approach to jazz vocals.
Epp has performed at various jazz clubs and festivals, including a memorable monthly residency at New York's historic 55 Bar with "Vinyl Live!". Her time in New York also saw her refine her craft under the tutelage of Grammy-nominated vocalists Gretchen Parlato, Theo Bleckmann, and Kate McGarry at the Manhattan School of Music.
Currently on faculty at the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music, Epp brings her performance experience and deep appreciation for Sarah Vaughan's artistry into her teaching. She continues to perform actively, exploring the depth of the jazz vocal tradition while developing her own unique voice.
