KIINJO BIO & PRESS:

Kiinjo is a new chapter in the career of Canadian superproducer Grandtheft, who cut his teeth during the halcyon days of Bloghaus zigzagging between LA and Montreal, DJing alongside the likes of DJ AM, Justice, MSTRKRFT and Boys Noize. Grandtheft topped the Hypemachine charts with disco and funky house bangers. Then, as American Apparel deep Vs got discontinued and Four Loko got banned, he went on to release club and bass music on a slew of seminal labels and tour the world.

By 2022, it was time for Grandtheft to get his groove on again. Under the name Kiinjo, he blends all his musical experiences, past and present: the fun, the funky, the silly and the soulful. Kiinjo is a sul-tan of sampling and a luminary of loops, sometimes flipping snippets from his own previous rap beats. They’re sped up, chopped around and then layered with house drums – an ode to the sounds of Armand Van Helden, Masters at Work and the French Touch movement, as well as an expression of unadulterated artistic freedom and pure ebullience. Chromeo was first to hear the vision and signed some releases to their Juliet imprint.

Kiinjo’s brand of dancefloor fillers have landed in sets of luminaries like Louie Vega, Jamie Jones and The Magician and have led to house releases on Diplo’s Higher Ground, legendary NYC label Nervous Records and many other labels.

2025 saw the release of “So Good” with Pat Lok which had massive radio success in Europe with over 10K radio spins and adds on Capital Dance UK. Later the same year “Love On The Dancefloor” was released on Mousse T’s Peppermint Jam imprint and quickly hit #1 overall on Traxsource - Kiin-jo’s second #1 in the same year.

The music attracted the attention of Purple Disco Machine who had Kiinjo support most of his US tour dates in ’24 and ’25.

“This is all new to me,” Kiinjo says, “I had all this fun, fresh music bubbling up inside me, and now there’s an outlet for it. All I want to do is make people dance, move, have fun, and one day play these tunes in Ibiza”
